The First 100 Days:
A Relentless Entry Plan for New Assistant Principals
About The Book
THE FIRST 100 DAYS: A Relentless Entry Plan for New Assistant Principals, is a practical, phase-by-phase roadmap designed to help new and transitioning assistant principals lead with clarity, confidence, and credibility from day one. This isn’t about surviving your first semester — it’s about showing up with purpose, earning trust, and building systems that actually last.
Split into four intentional phases (Days 1–10, 11–30, 31–60, and 61–100), this guide walks you through how to observe school culture, build meaningful relationships, implement quick wins, and begin shaping long-term impact. Each phase includes real-world strategies, reflection questions, and a checklist to keep you grounded in what matters most — leading your school community with consistency and care.
Created by a veteran school leader who’s walked the halls, fielded the calls, and led through the chaos, this guide is rooted in experience and designed for action. Whether you’re stepping into the role for the first time or simply ready to do it better, this book will help you lead relentlessly — and strategically.

Introduction: You’re Here for a Reason
Let’s be clear—this isn’t just about surviving your first few months. It’s about showing up as the leader your school deserves. You weren’t hired to maintain the status quo. You were hired to make a difference. And these first 100 days will shape how people experience your leadership, for better or worse. This job isn’t for the faint of heart. You’ll be asked to manage a crisis and restore calm in chaotic situations. You’ll hold space for students in pain, redirect behavior with grace, and support adults who are tired and stretched. You’ll be asked to lead, often before you feel ready. But you’re not alone. This plan breaks your entry into four clear, intentional phases—each designed to build trust, spark change, and keep you grounded. It’s not theoretical. It’s practical. It’s real. You’re walking into an environment with long-standing dynamics. Some of them will be healthy. Some will be broken. You’ll be navigating egos, emotions, expectations, and systems—sometimes all in one hour. That’s why you need a plan. This isn’t a script. It’s a structure. It gives you space to make the role your own, while still anchoring your actions in strategy. Because when everything is loud and urgent, clarity is your leadership superpower. Each phase is designed with intention: Phase 1: You observe, listen, and learn. Phase 2: You build trust and gain an understanding of the school’s cultural DNA. Phase 3: You begin leading visibly and strategically. Phase 4: You shift to long-term systems and vision. Embedded in each phase are daily moves, reflection habits, and relational priorities. This is how you lead with humanity and purpose. This is how you become the AP your school needs. You got this. Let’s go.Phases
